Attracted to the idea of driving the roads of Tasmania in your own car, but restricted by time, transport options and the tyranny of distance?
Well, a new concept initiated by two Tasmanian enthusiasts could have an answer for you.
Why not have your car – or motorcycle – already waiting for you on the Apple Isle, fully prepared and ready to go from the moment you touch down at Launceston airport, then leaving it in the care of professional enthusiasts at the end of your motoring sojourn?
Surely that would be better, if you are time-poor, than booking your car/motorcycle onto the Spirit of Tasmania for an overnight haul and accompanying it each way. Freedom Driving Tasmania aims to streamline access to the driving roads of the apple isle by simplifying the whole business of uniting car/motorcycle and driver.
It is virtually as easy as flying to Launceston and booking a hire vehicle for the duration of your stay – the big difference being you get to spend quality time with your own beloved car/motorcycle.
On arrival, the owner is met at the airport and the keys handed over in full VIP style. On departure, the same procedure applies in reverse, and the vehicle is cared for, in secure, premium garage facilities in Launceston, until the next visit.
According to David Cuff, who is the CEO of Freedom Driving Tasmania, "Growing up as a car enthusiast in Tasmania I was blessed to be able to drive on some of the world's greatest roads with minimal traffic – the perfect opportunity to really enjoy your car, and 30 years later little has changed."
The organisation can also organise itineraries to suit individual desires, timeframes and special requirements.
David, who was a director and instructor at John Bowe Driving for more than 18 years, says "We have local connections and a great depth of knowledge of Tasmania's most breathtaking and unique driving routes and must-see destinations."
His business partner and co-founder, Rodney Rawlings, is also a devoted car enthusiast who owns an Australian Bolwell sports car and has extensive knowledge of Tasmania, as well as a love for fine food and wine.
Prices are based on one car per client and start at $600 plus GST ($300 plus GST for a motorcycle) for a minimum of one calendar month. Freedom Driving Tasmania also offers a car relocation program, as well as many concierge services to customers.
