French luxury vehicle and race car manufacturer, Delage, has announced its return to the automotive world, with a spectacular F1-inspired hypercar.
The company was founded in 1905 by Louis Delage; three decades later, the business was acquired by fellow French manufacturer Delahaye, before operations ceased altogether in 1953.
Today, it’s headed up by a man called Laurent Tapie, whose goal with the D12 is to create “a road car with the feeling of a Formula One racer”, as well as preparing to take on the Nurburgring Nordschleife’s outright lap record of 5:19.55 minutes.
That was set by the Porsche 919 Evo Le Mans racer in July 2018, and is also likely to be targeted by the upcoming Mercedes-AMG ONE hypercar.

The Delage D12 two-seater – in which the passenger sits behind the driver in a tandem layout – features an enclosed cockpit that resembles that of an F1 car and Toyota’s upcoming GR Super Sport hypercar and Le Mans contender.
It is powered by an incredible 7.6-litre V12 engine that’s paired to a single electric motor.
The powertrain produces an eye-watering 1100hp (820kW) and, together with a dry weight of just 1400kg, would offer enough mumbo to launch the hypercar to 100km/h in around 2.5 seconds.

Delage is reportedly also working on an even lighter Club version of the D12, with a 1300kg dry weight.
The French brand is set to build just 30 examples of the D12, two of which have already been sold through Newport Beach Automotive Group in California, according to Motor Authority.
Pricing is said to start from $US2.3 million ($A3.2m) and deliveries are set to begin in 2021.
