The facelifted 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class model range has been previewed ahead of its launch at the Geneva motor show this March.
The big news is that the updates to Mercedes' rival for the BMW 5 Series will include updated driver assistance packages, the car-maker's latest MBUX infotainment system and a full range of petrol-electric hybrid powertrains.
Externally, the changes will be blink-and-you'll-miss-em, with sedan, coupe, cabriolet and wagon body derivatives all getting new headlights, fresh tail-lights, an updated grille and reprofiled front and rear bumpers.
Inside the E-Class, which is already among the best in its premium segment for tech, design and quality, there's a new multi-function steering wheel with touch-pad controls.
Taking pride of place is the car-maker's latest 10.25-inch MBUX infotainment screen that will introduce the latest "Hey Mercedes" natural voice commands as first introduced on the A-Class. There's even a new air quality indicator.
Under the bonnet, the German car-maker will come with seven new electrified engines that will be introduced alongside the plug-in petrol E300e and plug-in E300de diesel.
It's not been confirmed but it's rumoured the AMG E-Class range might also be expanded to include the AMG 53 mild-hybrid powertrain.
Safety also improves in the 2020 E-Class, with active steering assist, active blind-spot monitoring, active brake assist and a 360-degree parking camera being just a few of the new innovations that should ensure the Benz sedan and wagon will be safest in its class.
Even when parked, the latest E-Class by far surpasses the vehicle it replaces with its new Tesla Sentry-style anti-theft technology, which records surveillance video when parked and it's capable of alerting its owner when there's an attempted theft or break-in.
Following its unveil at the Swiss show in March it's thought the refreshed E-Class should hit European dealer showrooms by the end of 2020, but there's no word when we'll get our cars here yet.
