A leaked image of the updated 2022 BMW X7 has appeared on Instagram, showing the new model completely undisguised ahead of its official public debut later this year.
The single image, posted by Instagram Cochespias, gives us our first look at how the German car-maker plans to overhaul its flagship luxury SUV with a more radical pair of slimline split headlights that are thought to align the X7 with the more futuristic design of the upcoming all-new BMW 7 Series and X8 SUV.
Other changes include new openings below the headlights and a completely redesigned lower bumper that features a new central air-dam that is flanked either side by new triangular intakes.
The large, dominant kidney grille remains untouched, as does the hockey stick-shaped chrome trim along the X7's flanks, although the alloy wheels are new.
There's no picture of the rear-end, but it's thought the update could include a fresh set of tail-light clusters and a revised bumper.
Primed to better challenge the incoming fifth-generation Range Rover, the updated BMW X7 is expected to feature revised powertrains that, at the very least, will feature new mild hybrids.
It's believed the plug-in hybrid powertrain from the BMW X5 xDrive45e will also be offered, blending a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder petrol engine with a 24kWh battery and 83kW electric motor to produce a total of 290kW and 600Nm of torque. It should also offer a pure-electric range of around 70km.
Inside, it's thought the current car's infotainment system will be overhauled to run BMW's latest iDrive 7.0, although the X7 will keep its twin 12.3-inch HD screens.
Improvements to cabin trim and other materials are also anticipated.
Stay tuned, as more of the BMW X7 will be released in the build-up to its launch in the coming months.
