Friends star Matt LeBlanc will join Chris Evans as host of the new Top Gear, the BBC has announced overnight.
In the statement it confirmed the actor, who was made famous for playing clueless Joey in Friends, would join the car show immediately as the Top Gear producers prepares the show for its return in May.
LeBlanc is no stranger to Top Gear. The actor set (and holds) the record for the fastest lap time of the Top Gear test track in a ’reasonably priced car’ when the programme was hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond.
Since then, LeBlanc has also presented Top Gear: The Races - a spin-off of the regular show that recapped the best moments from the previous 22 series.
Speaking following the announcement he would join the line-up, LeBlanc said: “As a car nut and a massive fan of Top Gear, I'm honoured and excited to be a part of this iconic show’s new chapter. What a thrill!”
Chris Evans, meanwhile, added “Matt’s a lifelong fellow petrolhead and I’m thrilled he's joining Top Gear. Acting out our craziest car notions on screen is a dream job and I know we’ll both be debating some epic road trip ideas. We can’t wait to share what we’ve been up to on screen later this year."
LeBlanc won’t be the only co-host to join Top Gear, according to the BBC statement, remaining cast members, thought to be Youtube star Chris Harris, and German race car driver Sabine Schmitz are both expected to be officially confirmed as co-hosts.
Former F1 racer and commentator, David Coulthard, may also make guest appearances.
