It’s not often a Ford Sierra goes up for grabs on carsales, let alone a high-performance Ford Sierra RS Cosworth rally racer in impeccable condition…
But right now, a Queensland seller is offering up their mint-condition gloss-black RS500 Cossie and it could be yours for a cool $225,000.
Made famous in the late 1980s for its dominance in Group A racing right around the world, the high-performance three-door hatch quickly gained a loyal following of ‘Cossie’ lovers – despite (or perhaps for) its avant-garde design and wicked performance.
Now, it’s time for someone else to enjoy everything the Blue Oval’s iconic rally hatch has to offer.
Fitted with its original turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a four-speed manual gearbox, the giant-killing homologation special delivers power outputs of 152kW/277Nm – at least it did when it was new; this clean example has just 50,000km on the clock.
For reference, that was enough for a 0-100km/h sprint time of around six seconds, and stopping power comes courtesy of big four-piston brakes up front.
Located in Helensvale on Queensland’s Gold Coast, the private seller describes it as “immaculate throughout” and is even offering an onsite hoist for potential local buyers to inspect its “very clean” underside.
Everything is standard, including all original body panels, says the seller, with the exception of “OEM style Koni suspension and a stainless exhaust”.
“Everything works as it should, electric antenna, in dash monitor, mirrors, remote central locking with two sets of keys & fobs etc,” says the description in the ad.
According to the seller, the interior of this 36-year-old Ford is unmarked, there are no cracks in the dash and the sale will include the car’s genuine ‘waffle’ floor mats.
A folder full of receipts and documents will also be given to the buyer, along with proof it was an entrant in numerous UK car shows.
Every wheel arch-liner is intact, while the brakes have been refurbished to OEM standard, with new rotors and pads.
The seller is also offering up their ‘500RS’ rego plates via separate negotiation if the car goes to a Queensland buyer, while a selection of wheel sets including the original wheels with matching tyres, centre caps and locks are also available.
