From the Classifieds: 2002 Ford AUIII Falcon 'BedMobile'

Just what Ford's ugly duckling always needed – a touch of class

Innovation may not be the first word you associate with a 2002 Ford Falcon, but there's one particular AUIII Falcon wagon currently listed for sale at carsales.com.au that will have you marveling at the ingenuity of this Aussie classic.

Most car ads claim their products are “cutting edge” or “technologically advanced”, but who could argue this true-blue invention wasn’t inspired by some pretty clever thinking?

Billed as a limousine for airport transfers and wedding hire or the ‘The Ultimate Travelling BedMobile or Camper, it’s the perfect amalgamation of Falcon wagon, Rolls-Royce, hearse and camper van all in one.

Don’t believe it? Have a look for yourself here.

The sixth-generation Falcon was produced by Ford in Australia from 1998 to 2002. In terms of popularity, it couldn’t hold a candle to its direct rival at the time, Holden's VT Commodore, but the AU Falcon was technically advanced for its day and plenty of wagons are still doing duty as cabs, ensuring solid parts availability.

But no other 2002 Falcon is quite as adventurous as this one -- a jack-of-all-trades vehicle constructed in Western Australia with a replacement cost claimed to be in excess of $200,000.

At $39,990, it may be priced more than the average AU Falcon but make no mistake, this is no regular Falcon.

In “as new” condition and with only 33,000km on the clock, which for a 17-year-old car is impressive, it features a Rolls-Royce-esque front-end, porthole windows, plush leather and woodgrain trim throughout, and a rear bedroom complete with crystal chandeliers.

Currently registered in Queensland and offered with a safety certificate in that state (but not the TITAN 2 plates), it was recently serviced and its owner says “any inspection is most welcome”.

The opportunities are endless in this car and this type of innovation deserves an owner that appreciates innovation, because let’s be serious: who ever thought an ugly duckling AU Falcon could morph into something like this?

Like a fine wine, this AU Falcon has improved with age and the owner of this car has turned a blank canvas into a masterpiece the likes of which Da Vinci or Picasso would be proud (or not).

To find out more on this mint-condition, multi-purpose Falcon contact the seller via the ad on carsales.com.au and check it out if you’re in the Broadbeach Waters area.

Yes it is true, AU Falcons can do amazing things.
