The homegrown 2014 FPV GT F was the ultimate Ford Falcon V8 and, unfortunately for fans everywhere, the very last of its kind – the ultimate send-off for a legacy spanning decades and even generations.
For any of our younger readers or JDM fanatics not up to speed on local modern automotive history, FPV stood for Ford Performance Vehicles and, as the name suggests, was the high-performance division of Ford Australia.
FPV used to take the already quick and competent Falcon XR6 Turbo and XR8 and turn up the wick both under the bonnet and under the skin, transforming these locally-bred performance sedans into proper Holden and HSV poachers.
Unfortunately, the axe fell on the local performance division in 2014 (announced in 2013) and so FPV set about creating the ultimate Falcon – the indisputable king of Australian Ford performance – and the end result was the GT F.
Using the already-formidable 2012 GT R-Spec as the basis for their creation, FPV’s engineers set about enhancing everything from the chassis to the powertrain to the interior, but the headline upgrades included a big brake kit from Brembo and a fettled supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine good for up to 403kW/650Nm when the blower’s working overtime.
Only 500 of these monsters were made for Australia and while there are currently more than a dozen examples currently listed on carsales, none of them are in the same pristine condition as this black example for sale in Queensland with just 56km showing on the clock.
Badged as build number 12/500, this particular GT F was driven straight from the dealership to the shed in 2014, where it has stayed and been meticulously maintained over the past nine years, so much so it’s still fitted with the protective factory plastic on the seats and sills – even the original delivery stickers are still present on the windscreen.
Being such a unique vehicle, it’s only fitting it comes with matching personalised plates that reflect its signature identity within the build run – ‘GTF-012’ finished in a black and silver colourway to match the car’s paint and decal combination.
Adding to this particular vehicle’s appeal is the fact it’s one of the rarer six-speed manuals; Ford initially programmed 68 per cent of the production run to be automatics.
Both versions offered line-ball performance and there’s little doubt the three-pedal set-up would be the enthusiast’s pick.
The other key area in which the GT F stepped up its game was in the standard equipment department; in addition to being the most powerful and capable Falcon ever, it was also one of the best-equipped.
As such, standard fare extends to a premium audio system, 8.0-inch infotainment system, colour touch screen, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable driver’s seat, 19-inch alloy wheels, leather seat trim, sat-nav, push-button start, cruise control and Bluetooth.
There’s little doubt the 2014 FPV GT F is one of the most collectible Aussie vehicles ever made, as we predicted back when it launched, and this car – currently listed at $195,000 – is one of the finest examples of the breed.
The personal plates, genuine car cover and original documentation are all included and, while there’s no reason given for the vehicle’s sale, we have little doubt the seller is keen to see their black beauty go to another avid Aussie collector or appreciator.
