The reason we know this detail is that this particular V8 S started life as a press car. It did the rounds of Australian media, but its main claim to fame was starring in the Top Gear Australia special (episode two of Series 22, if you’re interested), driven by one R. Hammond.

It was subsequently acquired by Bentley’s Queensland dealer before being sold to its first private buyer.

Being a press car, it has a loaded equipment list, including the Extended Sports Specification, which added carbon-ceramic brakes, carbon interior trim, adaptive suspension and all-important sports exhaust.

Then there’s the Mulliner Driving Specification – 21-inch wheels, diamond-quilted leather –  ‘Naim for Bentley’ premium audio, contrasting yellow interior stitching and much more.

While the W12 was for many years viewed as the flagship Bentley engine, the thunderous soundtrack of the 389kW/680Nm 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 suits the character of the brand to a tee, especially in the more sporting ‘S’ configuration with its lower and stiffer suspension.
