From the Classifieds: Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI Makinen hits $200K

Gold-class Tommi Makinen Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution special-ed listed on carsales for $210,000

A unique opportunity has arrived for someone to get their hands on a rare Australian-delivered 2000 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI Tommi Makinen Edition.

The listing on carsales from a private seller in New South Wales places the special-edition at $210,000.

That’s well in excess of the asking price of $79,990 plus on-road costs when it was new at the turn of the century, when Mitsubishi Australia brought in 100 examples under the low-volume import scheme as it looked to establish a local Ralliart division and lay the groundwork for a locally-built Mitsubishi Magna Ralliart.

It’s also much higher than we’ve seen before for the Tommi special, including other current listings that are priced around the $80-90K mark.

According to the seller, the Tommi Makinen Evo VI you see here has done just 50,000km and is one of just 27 finished in the Amethyst Black exterior colour.

It comes with “all books and two keys” as well as a certificate of authenticity.

Of course, the main attraction is that it’s fitted with a host of options from the factory, including a revised aero-optimised front fascia, Recaro bucket seats (with Makinen branding), redesigned instrument cluster, revised exhaust and more.

There are two different images of the car in the listing, one showing what look to be the official WRC-design 17-inch wheels and the other with a set of aftermarket rims.

The lightweight Evo VI was a blast to drive, churning out 206kW/373Nm from its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

Driving all four wheel wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox, it could hit 100km/h from rest in a claimed 5.76sec and devour the quarter mile in 14.31sec.

“An offer like this, with low kms and in showroom condition (apart from stone chips on the bonnet/guard) comes once in a lifetime,” says the ad description.

The special-edition celebrates Makinen’s four successive World Rally Championship titles from 1996 to 1999.
