In a stunt to publicise the frugality of its latest diesel-engined cars, Jaguar has driven a new XJ the length of the British ‘mainland’ on one tank of fuel.
A Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust team drove the twin-turbo V6 XJ TDVi from John O'Groats, Scotland to Lands End, Cornwall (a route known, at least in reverse, as Le Jog) on one tank of fuel – a distance of 843.2miles (approx 1370km).
At the journey’s end, according to Jaguar, there was enough fuel left for them to turn around and reach the 1000-mile mark (1612km) before the 85-litre tank ran dry.
The 18-hour trip returned an overall consumption figure achieved of 53.5mpg -- better than 5.5lt/100km. Average speed was around 70km/h.
Jaguar does not offer the diesel-engine XJ variant Down Under but recently released a version of the S-Type so-equipped.
