The 2025 MG QS three-row SUV has been priced from $46,990 drive-away and will be offered in two variants when the first examples arrive locally in the coming weeks.
That sharp starting price applies to the base Excite variant and grows to $50,990 when referring to the better-equipped Essence, however both figures are set to inflate within months seeing as MG has stipulated the pricing is an introductory offer.
Still, it’s likely to remain significantly cheaper than comparable models from the big-name brands like Kia, Hyundai, Toyota and Mazda while offering a longer aftersales program (10 years/250,000km).
Both variants are powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine good for 153kW/360Nm, and both share the same nine-speed automatic transmission, though they differ in their drive configuration: front-drive for the Excite and all-wheel drive for the Essence.
Headline equipment on the lesser includes 20-inch alloy wheels, full LED exterior lighting, eight-way power-adjustable front seats wrapped in fabric, a 12.3-inch infotainment system with wireless smartphone mirroring and sat-nav, an eight-speaker sound system, a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster, keyless entry and start, powered tailgate, tri-zone climate control and a 360-degree camera.
The Essence builds on this with leather upholstery, heated and cooled front seats with memory function for the driver, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, wireless phone charger, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, front parking sensors and three extra drive modes (vs six).
Active safety and driver aids common to both meantime comprise but aren’t limited to adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, all the lane-related gismos, driver monitoring, front and rear collision warning, blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert and breaking as well as intelligent speed limit assist.
“It is very exciting for MG to launch our first seven-seat SUV in Australia,” MG Australia CEO Peter Ciao said.
“For larger families, or multi-generation families, the extra space the QS offers will be loved.”
More variants and powertrains will be added to the local QS range in the future, including MG’s unique-for-Australia ‘Super Hybrid’ plug-in system.
