An upgraded version of Chrysler's 300 SRT muscle car will arrive in Australian showrooms in just over a month with more power and torque, a new transmission and a swathe of new safety technology, but you'll pay $3000 more for it.
Now in transit from the US and due here in September, when it will join the facelifted MY15 Chrysler 300 range released this week, the MY15 300 SRT will be priced from $59,000.
Once again it will be powered by Chrysler's mammoth 6.4-litre HEMI V8, which gets a slight increase in outputs -- to 350kW (up 3kW) at 6150rpm and 637Nm (up 6Nm) at 4250rpm.
The previous five-speed automatic transmission is replaced by an eight-speed unit, bringing the SRT into line with its V6 siblings. The new 300 SRT also features the rotary gear selector and electric power steering from the 2015 300C and 300C Luxury.
Two models will be offered, the SRT Core and the SRT ‘premium’. The $59,000 (plus on-road costs) SRT Core comes with partial body-coloured door mirrors, body coloured door-handles, cloth trim, launch control, electric power steering, a rear spoiler, door sill scuff plates, six-speaker stereo, sports steering wheel and SRT Performance Data logging.
The premium SRT ($69,000 plus ORCs) adds a lane departure warning system, blind-spot monitoring, auto-dipping headlight high-beam, cruise control with distance control, electronic damper control, satellite-navigation, ventilated front seats, heated front and rear seats, heated/cooled front cup-holders, Nappa leather trim, sports pedals, premium audio system, puddle lights, rain-sensing wipers, 19-speaker stereo, subwoofer and a heated steering wheel.
As we've reported, the 300 SRT is now a model only built for Australia, where it accounts for more than a third of 300 sales.
Full official details and images are yet to be released, but we spied the upcoming 300 SRT in North America in May.
