Full details: Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak

Peugeot comes clean with all the mind-blowing stats for Sebastien Loeb's hillclimb weapon

We recently brought you news of Peugeot’s new Pikes Peak challenger, and now the French manufacturer has revealed all the key details pertaining to the bewinged monster.

The 208 T16 Pikes Peak spec list makes for mind-boggling reading as the 875kg hillclimb weapon is powered by a twin-turbo 3.2-litre V6 that kicks out a beefy 643kW and 882Nm, which Peugeot says adds up to a (hold on to your hats) 0-100km/h split time of 1.8 seconds.

The acceleration is unrelenting as 200km/h flashes past in 4.8 seconds and 240km/h in seven seconds. Or, to put it another way… bye bye, Bugatti Veyron.

Drive from the force-fed V6 is transferred to all four wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Everything about the 208 T16 Pikes Peak has been designed with just one thing in mind – to get up the 19.9km hillclimb, which comprises 156 corners (over its now entirely paved surface), as quickly as possible.

Peugeot isn’t just eyeing outright victory, as it will no doubt be aiming to eclipse the current course record of 9min 46.164sec set by Rhys Millen in his purpose-built Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

It’s probably evident from the accompanying images, but Peugeot’s Pikes Peak special shares absolutely nothing with the road-going 208 as its carbon-fibre bodywork is cloaked around a tubular steel-frame chassis.

The suspension consists of double wishbones and pushrod/rocker arm actuation at all four corners, while stopping power comes via hydraulic double-circuit brakes with one-piece light-alloy calipers and vented carbon discs (380mm diameter at the front and 355mm at the rear).

Measuring 4500mm long, 2000mm wide and 1300mm tall, the 208 T16 Pikes Peak has a snowplough-like front splitter and rear wing inspired by the 908 Le Mans racecar.

Meanwhile, the wheel-arches are stuffed full of F1-derived 18x13 magnesium alloys wrapped in Michelin 31/71x18 rubber.

As previously reported, steering duties will be taken care of by nine-times world rally champion Sebastien Loeb, so Peugeot is leaving nothing to chance with its Pikes Peak assault.

The best news for us as punters is that Peugeot intends to make a sequel to the epic Climbdance video that documents Ari Vatanen’s victory in the 1988 Pikes Peak Hillclimb aboard his factory-entered 405 T16.
