Furtive e-GT set to sneak into Paris Motor Show
French race team broadens its portfolio with an electric sportster that could go into production by 2012Tesla thus far has the electric-sportscar genre pretty much to itself , but French race team Exagon Engineering plans to toss its hat in the ring with the oddly named the Furtive-eGT -- due to debut at this week's Paris Motor Show.
The wedge-shaped 2+2 was co-developed with the help of some top-line technology partners, including Siemens Corporate Technology (engines), Saft (batteries) and Michelin (tyres).
Measuring 4.65m long, the Furtive-eGT has elements of Nissan GT-R and Aston Martin Vantage in its styling and, although somewhat derivative, it's by no means a bad looker.
However, of more interest than its looks are the claimed performance figures served up by the twin Siemens electric motors; its maker quotes a 0-100km/h split of 3.5sec and v-max of 250km/h, which more or less qualifies it for the supercar bracket.
The Furtive-eGT is said to be capable of travelling 400km on electric power alone, but a small generator can extend this to just over 800km, quaffing 25 litres of unleaded in the process.
There's at lease some token video footage of the Furtive e-GT doing the rounds for now (see it here), but the commentary will only be of use to our French-speaking viewers (the significance of the pooch feasting on the lawn at the end of the video also escapes us).
Exagon reportedly plans to put the vehicle into production by 2012, but there's as yet no info on prospective pricing or build volumes.
The French-based company has as least some prior experience with high-po electric cars as it developed a one-off electric prototype Andros Trophy ice-racer in 2009.
