GM division Pontiac has unveiled its version of the VE Commodore, the G8. The wraps came off the Aussie export at today's Chicago Motor Show opening, ahead of a planned announcement by Holden tomorrow morning.
The announcement is expected to formalise GM's worst kept secret -- that Holden will begin exports of the new car to the USA.
GM model supremo, Bob Lutz, let the cat out of the bag at North American International Automobile Show (NAIAS) in Detroit in January. According to Lutz's Detroit comments, up to 50,000 of the V8-powered four-doors could be exported each year to the United States.
It is also expected that tomorrow will see Holden confirm exports of the VE's long-wheelbase sibling to China wearing Buick badging.
Pontiac rolled out the VE in Chicago as a "showcar" stating the car is "representative of the production GT model" that will hit US dealers early next year.
Pontiac will offer both V6 and V8-engined versions of the G8 (the GT gets the L76 6.0-litre V8) with four-wheel disc, ABS and traction control, electronic stability control, 18-inch alloys wheels, power-adjustable front seats and foglamps standard across the range.
The Chicago G8 showcar wears HSV's 20-inch alloys and a GTS-style interior.
