Geely Galaxy E5 SUV confirmed for right-hand drive

Chinese auto giant’s global expansion includes all-new battery-electric mid-size SUV pitched at Tesla Model Y

Geely’s fledgling Galaxy brand has confirmed that the all-new battery-electric 2024 Galaxy E5 mid-size SUV will be revealed at the Beijing motor show next month and is set to embark on a global export rollout – including right-hand drive markets such as Australia.

The news has emerged just as Geely has also announced that RHD production of the Zeekr X small SUV and Zeekr 009 people-mover is underway ahead of an anticipated Aussie launch later this year or early in 2025.

Galaxy and Zeekr are part of the sprawling Geely auto stable that includes Volvo, Polestar, Lotus and Lynk & Co, the latter also primed to launch Down Under.

The all-new 2024 Galaxy E5 is expected to undercut the top-selling Tesla Model Y in Australia, with pricing for the Chinese market tipped to start from just 150,000 yuan ($A32,000).

Full technical details have yet to be announced, and there’s no word on whether other Galaxy models will be part of the export push, such as the current hybrid-powered L6 and L7 sedans or the all-electric E8.
