Geely teases new car brand

Chinese car-maker teases Lynk & Co's first vehicle, will be underpinned by Volvo's next small car platform

Geely has teased an image of what's thought to be the small SUV that will launch its Lynk & Co brand ahead of its official launch on October 20.

No technical data has been revealed for the vehicle, which will be based on Volvo's all-new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA).

However, the car-maker says the forthcoming model will be the "most connected car to date" and will push the "limits of the car industry", hinting that it will come with connectivity technology like on-board wifi, smartphone apps, cloud tech and perhaps even integrated bicycle hire.

Already spotted testing in the Austrian Alps, the new SUV is thought to have had significant input from Volvo in its development.

That means the new Lynk & Co model could share engine and transmissions with the forthcoming small XC40 that's due next year.

Styled by former Volvo design boss Peter Horbury in Gothenburg, Sweden, the small SUV has been deliberately created to appeal to European and Western markets.

It's not known yet if Lynk & Co plans to launch in the already crowded Australian market, but the Volvo XC40 should be here by early 2018 at the latest.
