China's Geely has pulled the drapes off the new Geely Vision Starburst – a striking new concept that is said to draw direct inspiration from both the expanding cosmos and the birth of a new star.
Despite its ethereal theme, the Vision Starburst is said to herald the launch of the brand's all-new design language, providing visual clues for future Geely models.
Said to blend both a wagon and fastback sedan, the concept gets a striking front-end design that features a parabolic grille and dramatic A-shaped headlights that are interlinked by a full-length LED light bar.
There's no word on powertrain, but it's believed the Vision Starburst sits on Geely's latest SEA architecture it has created for pure-electric vehicles.
Featuring what's described as taut, muscular lines at the rear, the face's dramatic styling is echoed by a pair of boomerang LED tail-lights that are joined by yet another LED light bar.
The new Geely concept also features wheel-arch lighting. Yes, we're serious; the front and rear wheel-arches feature LED lights that communicate to onlookers whether it's at standstill, being charged or on the move.
There are front and rear scissor doors, providing access to a cabin that is designed to blend seamlessly with the exterior aesthetic.
There's also said to be a centre console that appears to be floating in air. The gear shifter is hollow, too.
Overall, the Chinese brand said it amounts to a "borderless" or "boundless" atmosphere.
Like those unusual arches, the cabin's ambient lighting also changes depending on what the car's doing.
Geely has already ruled out a direct production version of the Vision Starburst, but says its design elements will reappear in the near future on production models.
Since Geely last year sold a dizzying 1.3 million cars in China alone, during a global pandemic, it's hard not to overstate just how influential the Vision Starburst may prove.
