Genesis has announced it will push the Genesis Essentia coupe concept it revealed at this year's New York motor show into limited production.
Speaking to US mag
, Genesis North America boss Erwin Raphael confirmed that the flagship Essentia had been green-lit internally, but only as a very limited edition model, priced higher than anything else wearing a Genesis badge."We are very committed to the Essentia," he said: "We love the car. We think the car will do very well."
Raphael refused to confirm any more details, including an on-sale date, but it's thought the Essentia will go on sale as soon as 2021 following comments by Genesis CEO Manfred Fitzgerald, speaking to motoring.com.au.
Likely to stay true to the New York motor show concept car's styling, the production versions might loose only the butterfly doors.
Beneath is carbon-fibre skin, the real vehicle is also likely to remain pure-electric and come equipped with two powerful electric motors that will ensure the fast coupe will be capable of hitting 100km/h in just three seconds.
Set to be built on one of two dedicated electric car platforms the Korean car-maker will launch in 2021 and 2022, it's thought the powerful rear-wheel drive coupe will spearhead the premium brand's future battery-powered car range.
Created under the direction of new head of Genesis, Kia and Hyundai design, ex-Lamborghini and Bentley designer Luc Donckerwolke, the Essentia is also tasked with changing the perception of the Hyundai luxury brand's design language.
