Genesis is adamant that its prices will be fixed in Australia, in the face of increased discounting by manufacturers – particularly premium brands -- amid slowing sales.
The Genesis G70 will be offered in six trim levels across two engine options in Australia. Every example will shuffle drive to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic.
Entry-level Genesis G70 2.0T variants are powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine developing 180kW and 353Nm, while 3.3T models get a 272kW/510Nm 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 that also does duty in the Kia Stinger.
Keeping with remarks made by the car-maker last year, the Genesis G70 will be highly specified in Australia with a panoramic sunroof the only available option.
The range is anchored by the Genesis G70 2.0T, which will be priced from $59,300 plus ORCs. Standard features comprise 18-inch alloy wheels with Continental tyres, a genuine leather-appointed interior with quilting, aluminium trim inserts, an 8.0-inch touch-screen navigation system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a nine-speaker sound system and wireless smartphone charging.
Further up the food chain resides the Genesis G70 2.0T Sport ($63,300 plus ORCs). Its higher price tag brings 19-inch ‘Sport’ alloy wheels with dark grey finish, Michelin Pilot Sport4 tyres, Brembo high-performance brakes, a limited-slip differential, upgraded thermal cooling, dark chrome exterior accents, the choice of Sport Grey or Sport Red interior colourways, and more exterior paint options.
Occupying top rung for the four-cylinder line-up is the G70 2.0T Ultimate, priced at $69,900. It is differentiated by Adaptive Front-Lighting System (AFS), 16-way adjustable power driver’s seat with two position memory, Nappa leather appointed interior with luxury quilting, ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, head-up display, 360-degree surround-view monitor and 15-speaker Harman premium audio system.
Entry into the V6 portfolio will start with the Genesis G70 3.3T Sport, priced from $72,450 plus ORCs. The specifications list mirrors that of the 2.0T Sport, plus the bent-six.
Next in the V6 line-up is the Genesis G70 3.3T Ultimate ($79,950), which adds the adaptive front light system, 16-way power adjustment for the driver’s seat with two-position memory, Nappa leather-appointed upholstery with quilting, ventilated front seats, heated outboard rear seats, head-up display, a 360-degree surround camera system and a 15-speaker Lexicon by Harman premium audio system.
Finally, there’s the Genesis G70 3.3T Ultimate Sport, which is set to be priced at the same $79,950 mark as the regular Ultimate, but brings19-inch Sport alloy wheels with dark grey finish, dark chrome exterior trim, Sport Grey or Sport Red Nappa leather with sport quilting and more exterior paint options.
The Genesis G70 range goes on sale in Australia this month following construction delays and the unexpected departure of the Korean manufacturer’s Australian boss.
