Genesis G70 Shooting Brake wagon teased

Korean brand's BMW 3 Series rival set to reveal sporty-looking wagon variant

Genesis has given us our first glimpse of a new Shooting Brake version of the small Genesis G70 sedan that it is confirmed for launch in Australia in the third quarter of 2021.

Created to battle it out with the BMW 3 Series Touring and the Audi A4 Avant, the new 2021 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake appears to trade a little space and extra practicality for more rakish lines to provide a sportier, sleek look.

Lightly camouflaged, the first teaser can't hide the fact that the two-line front design treatment for the headlights has been mimicked in the tail-lights.

The Hyundai-owned premium brand has yet to reveal any further details but it's thought the G70 wagon will mirror the sedan line-up and come powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine (185kW/353Nm) and a 3.3-litre V6 twin-turbo unit (272kW/510Nm).

Likely to be offered with both all-wheel drive (that gets a drift mode) and rear-wheel drive, the G70 Shooting Brake will bag a high level of specification with all models primed to get a large 10.25-inch touch-screen, sat-nav, built-in dash-cam and a full package of driver assist systems.

The 2021 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake will follow the new sedan into showrooms in Australia, with the latter arriving in June.

Expect to hear plenty more from Genesis in the coming months as it gears up to rapidly expand its range, with three pure-electric models set to be introduced by the end of the third quarter 2022.
