Genesis G80 Sport models arrive

New G80 Sport Line and Sport variants promise enhanced dynamics for Korean luxury sedan

The Genesis G80 has been updated for 2022, with the headline acts being the availability of new Sport Line and Sport packages for the 2.5T and 3.5T AWD models respectively.

The new options are designed to enhance the athleticism of the 2022 Genesis G80 with a series of cosmetic and chassis upgrades.

Each package adds $6000 onto the cost of the standard G80 model.

Available exclusively on the rear-drive 2.5T, the Sport Line delivers a more aggressive aesthetic via sportier front and rear bumpers, dark chrome exterior trim, 20-inch sport alloy wheels, sport seat quilting, three-spoke sports steering wheel, carbon interior trim and alloy pedals.

The sportier looks are bolstered by sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, four-piston monobloc front brake callipers acting on bigger 360mm ventilated rotors, and the camera-based ‘road preview electronic control’ suspension.

The Sport package on the 3.5T AWD includes all of these go-faster goodies as well as rear-wheel steering, Sport+ drive mode, launch control and active road noise control to help extract maximum performance out of the 279kW/530Nm 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6.

For reference, the 2.5T continues to churn out 224kW/422Nm, with both powerplants sending their power to the ground via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Besides the sporty new option packs, other changes made to the 2022 Genesis G80 line-up include the addition of an intelligent speed limiter, two rear USB ports and a fresh alloy wheel design for the standard 2.5T.

These new features are accompanied by an $1100 price increase for the 2.5T (now starting at $86,000 plus on-roads) and a $2100 hike for the flagship 3.5T (from $102,000).

The optional Luxury package has been updated too, adding ergo motion front seats and rear wireless phone charging to the mix for no extra cost; the pack is still priced $13,000 above the RRP.

First deliveries of the 2022 Genesis G80 are due to commence in April.

How much does the 2022 Genesis G80 cost?

2.5T Sport Line – $92,000
3.5T AWD – $102,000
