Genesis X Convertible gets green light for production

The stunning 2022 Genesis X Convertible concept appears destined for showrooms, following hints from a senior executive that the Korean luxury brand has already green-lit its Bentley Continental GT rival for production.

Speaking to US industry journal Automotive News, Genesis’ North American national dealer advisory council boss Peter Lanzavecchia confirmed that a production two-door drop-top is on its way, having heard the news directly from chief designer Luc Donckerwolke (who has apparently signed off on it).

Lanzavecchia revealed little else, other than to say that the Genesis X Convertible would be a “true halo flagship for the brand” and should result in a “lot of Bentley Continental convertible trade-ins”.

He also suggested potential pricing of the X Convertible could be as high as $US200,000 ($A281,500) and that production would be strictly limited.

“I think production of that convertible would help put an exclamation point at the end of the sentence saying Genesis is a full real luxury brand,” he said.

Genesis has yet to officially confirm the X Convertible will be produced. If does go ahead, the related X and X Speedium Coupe concepts might also follow suit.

There’s no word on timing at this stage, but the production version of the flagship cabriolet is tipped to be largely unchanged from the 2+2 concept, which included a novel infotainment system mounted in a steeply raked arrangement between the driver and passenger.
