Genesis has unveiled a full-size scale model of the all-new Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Vision GT created to virtually race in Gran Turismo 7.
Unwrapping the X Gran Berlinetta at the game’s GT World Series Finals in Barcelona, the new concept for a hypercar reveals how the current design language for the Hyundai Motor Group’s luxury brand would apply to a low-slung super-sports car.
The X Gran Berlinetta features Genesis’ trademark crest grille and quad strip lamps, with interlinked daytime running lights that frame the grille and extend along the front fenders.
The cab-rear proportions, fighter jet-style glass canopy, smoothly sculptured doors and giant curved rear wing, meanwhile, are all pure supercar, with Genesis’ Athletic Elegance design language seamlessly applied for dramatic effect.
At the rear there’s also a large diffuser and an F1-style rain light.
Combined, Genesis says the X Gran Berlinetta blends a high downforce body with a drag coefficient of just 0.34Cd.
Inside, there’s a stripped-back cabin that features plenty of quilted leather on the transmission tunnel and door cards. Ahead of the driver is a yoke-style steering wheel with F1-style levels of telemetry and a display for the speedo, rev counter, lap timer and auxiliary information.
To the right there’s just two rotary dials that are placed in front of what looks like a full-width infotainment system.
Under the rear boot lid, the Genesis hypercar is said to come with an advanced hybrid powertrain that combines the Hyundai Lambda 11 V6 combustion engine and a YASA axial flux electric motor.
Power is plentiful, with the mid-mounted combustion engine alone pumping out 640kW and 1071Nm of torque alone. The heavily modified V6 is also said to scream itself all the way to 10,000rpm.
Combined with a 150kW/266Nm e-motor, Genesis claims the total power output for the X Gran Berlinetta is a thumping 787kW and 1337Nm of torque, which would provide it with acceleration and a top speed to match other (real) hypercars like the Bugatti Chiron.
While refusing to confirm it would ever go ahead and put a car like the Vision Gran Turismo concept into production, chief designer John Krsteski said concepts like the X Gran Berlinetta remain important for the car-maker.
“Our goal was to create a timeless design rooted in the essence of motorsport,” he said.
“We have an incredibly diverse global design team that are car and racing enthusiasts. The designers relished the opportunity to create a race car that featured Genesis design elements as well as technical performance attributes.
“It has become a catalyst of inspiration for our other programs.”
The Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Vision GT will be available to play on Gran Turismo 7 from January 2024.
