Alfa Romeo is fronting up to the Geneva motor show next week with two limited-edition models to build an association between the company's road cars and its newly renamed Alfa Romeo Racing team.
Formerly Alfa Romeo Sauber, the race team will contest F1 events in 2019 with Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi the named drivers. At the Geneva show the limited-edition models will share the stage with this year's Alfa Romeo Racing F1 car.
Based on Quadrifoglio variants, the valued-added Giulia and Stelvio 'Alfa Romeo Racing' models are painted in a distinctive livery taken from the race-team's colours of Trofeo White and Competizione Red.
Sparco racing seats feature red stitching and a carbon-shell structure; there's a combination of carbon fibre and leather for the automatic transmission shifter, Alcantara and carbon fibre elements for the steering wheel and a bespoke badge. Tinted windows, adaptive cruise control, Harman Kardon premium audio system and a Mopar infotainment system with 8.8-inch screen are standard across the two cars, as are DAB+ (digital) radio and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
The Giulia's roof is constructed from carbon fibre and the alloy wheels measure 19 inches in diameter. In contrast, the Stelvio rides on 20-inch alloys. Both vehicles come equipped with red brake calipers, carbon-ceramic brakes and an Akrapovic titanium exhaust. The wing mirrors, grille insert, side skirts and the Giulia's scuff plates are also finished in carbon fibre.
With the 2.9-litre turbocharged V6 producing 375kW and 600Nm for the Giulia and the Stelvio, the SUV will reach 100km/h from standstill in 3.8 seconds. The Giulia takes a little longer, at 3.9 seconds.
FCA won't confirm whether the limited-edition Giulia and Stelvio will be brought to Australia, but hasn't explicitly ruled out the possibility either.
