GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Alpina B7 teased
Famous tuner shows off disguised version of its BMW 7 Series-based B7 drifting -- the closest thing to an M7 we’ll ever getAlpina has released a dramatic video tease of the BMW 7 Series-based super-sedan it plans to reveal at the Geneva motor show this March.
Called the B7, the biggest Alpina is also primed to be the most powerful car the German tuner makes and is expected to get an uprated version of the mighty 441kW/801Nm twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 that already powers the B5 Biturbo and began life under the bonnet of BMW’s M5.
Like the B5 Biturbo, the bigger B7 is once again expected to shun BMW’s seven-speed dual-clutch (DCT) transmission and opt for a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic instead.
Expect the big B7 to hit 100km/h in less than four seconds and top out (the speed limiter has been removed) at around 330km/h.
Alpina-enhanced BMWs are not currently sold here in Australia officially, but that could all change following reports BMW Australia has been evaluating the smaller M4-based 301kW Alpina B4 Biturbo.
Since it’s unlikely BMW Australia has been splashing out significant amounts of money for ADR homologation just for fun, the performance sub-brand is expected to be launched here soon.
When it does arrive, Alpinas like the B4 Biturbo will almost certainly be priced below BMW’s own M4 but since there’s little likelihood of the German car-maker ever making an M7, the new new big Alpina B7 could become BMW Australia’s flagship model if a decision is made to import it.
