GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Audi's sleeker TT

Official design sketches reveal a lower, flatter appearance for Audi's new sportster
Audi has released design sketches for its new TT, which is due to be shown in Geneva next month.
Overall the look remains true to the two previous design iterations, however there are some sharper angles and a wider, lower look planned for the new model.
The TT looks set to continue its evolutionary path away from the polarising first generation model, and align more closely with current mainstream models. But the overall proportions and some signature design elements – roofline, tail lights, flared wheel arches and front apron – are carried over from both the current model and the first generation model.
Around the front, the single-frame grille develops the theme already witnessed in the A3 and Q3, with the rounded corners of the current car squared up and more closely integrated with the leading edge of the bonnet and the narrower, cowled headlights. The bonnet itself eschews the wrap-over form of the current model's.
The word is that the new TT will be based on the MQB platform that underpins both the stablemate A3 and Volkswagen's Golf 7, but there will be some significant technical departures for the lightweight sports car.
Audi revealed the new TT's interior last month at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The new dash has adopted a stylish shape for the instrument binnacle, which appears to be one large TFT screen, incorporating satnav maps and major instruments in a PIP (picture-in-picture) format. This tidies up what might otherwise be a busy cockpit in a compact cabin.
Audi has apparently taken a leaf out of Benz's book for the design of the eyeball vents, which feature styling that recalls the look of jet turbine compressors – and three vents are located in the centre fascia. Switchgear and controls (headlights, MMI and electronic parking brake) are shared with current Audi models, but the dash itself offers the driver a panoramic array of instrumentation and controls, while the passenger side juts closer to the seat occupant for safer deployment of airbags.
