GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Audi's slimmed-down TT Cup
Audi has confirmed it wants an extreme TT based on the super lightweight Sport TT Cup racerSenior Audi board member, Ulrich Hackenberg, has told motoring.com.au that the German car maker plans to build a road-going version of the one-make Sport TT Cup race cars entering competition this year.
The announcement, made in a special press conference, confirmed a faster, more powerful TT is on the way.
Based on the TT Cup, the new road version is expected to share the same 2.0-litre turbo engine that, in the racer produces 243kW.
Perhaps more exciting for those hoping for an extreme track-biased TT the road car could also weigh close to the race car's 1125kg.
It's not expected the road version will receive the racer's push-to-pass overtake function but it might gain a road-going version of the Sport TT Cup bespoke aero package.
Also uncertain is whether the road car will share the racer's front-wheel drive, limited slip differential or opt for the TTS coupe's all-wheel drive underpinnings.
The first race in the Sport TT Cup series is at Hockenheim on May 1. Audi would not confirm any more details on pricing or how many special edition Cups it plans to make.
