GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Borgward teases new car

Reborn German car-maker teases new concept; could be all-new car, plug-in BX7 or stretched seven-seat SUV

Borgward has teased an image of what’s believed to be an all-new concept that it plans to reveal at this March’s Geneva motor show.

It’s not clear yet which vehicle the fledgling brand might reveal but speculation is rife on the internet that the German car-maker plans to follow up the BX7 it revealed at the last year’s Frankfurt motor show with a new small car concept designed by former Saab and Volvo designer, Einar Hareide.

In the past Borgward has publicly stated it wanted to create a small and compact range of cars.

Other industry commentators suggest the reveal, that’s pencilled in for February 29, might just be a simple plug-in hybrid version of the BX7 SUV.

Borgward, meanwhile, is building the hype by describing the unveiling as “more than just a premiere”.

The other suggestion is the second concept might be a stretched version of the BX7 SUV that will add a third row of seats.

Whatever it is, be sure the car-maker will continue teasing the new concept right up to its official reveal.

Borgward revealed its bold plans for its future last September and declared it would build and sell 800,000 vehicles by 2020 and then 1.6 million units by 2025.

The company’s ambitious strategy has international backing from huge Chinese vehicle-maker Foton Motor Company.

Based in Stuttgart, Germany – the home of Mercedes-Benz — Borgward announced its return after 54 years at the 2015 Geneva show and already claims to have a 1000-strong workforce.

It’s still not clear where the vehicle will be built.
