GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Citroen C3 renewed... really

So Citroen took no chances with the styling update for the retro 2CV homage, albeit at the risk of the refreshed model fading into the background.
Alongside Citroen's Technospace concept, DS3 Cabrio and C3 Hybrid Air, the renewed C3 almost didn’t get a look-in.
But appear at Geneva it did, braving the fanfare and excitement of its concept model stablemates to ‘strengthen and enhance’ the qualities of its predecessor, which Citroen says has sold in numbers of three million, worldwide.
The renewed C3, which will go on sale in Europe next month, offers a newly shaped windscreen for improved visibility, more efficient engines, a reshaped “smile” front-end, LED daytime running lights, new tail lights, and a more tactile interior with softer, more comfortable upholstery, and a standard-fit reversing camera.
Drivetrain technology sees the C3 discharge CO2 emissions at a level as low as 87g/km, with petrol-powered models bringing 15 per cent more power and a 25 per cent cut in fuel consumption to the C3 equation.
A choice of 1.0 or 1.2-litre PureTech three-cylinder petrol engines delivers 68hp (51kW) and 82hp (61kW) while returning 4.3 and 4.5L/100km respectively, and CO2 emissions of 99 and 104g/km. The petrol line-up is topped by a 120hp (89kW) unit, the only petrol unit to be offered with the choice of an automatic transmission.
Diesel offerings extend to five, ranging from 70hp (52kW) to 115hp (86kW). Three of the units are offered with micro-hybrid technology and what Citroen says is the most efficient idle stop-start system on the market. In its leanest form, the C3 diesel emits just 87g/km.
At 3940mm long and 1710mm wide the new C3 turns through a diameter of 10.8m, and is recognised, Citroen admits, as one of the most compact vehicles in its segment. Despite this, the C3's boot is rated at 300 litres, which Citroen says is up there with the best in its class.
Other equipment offerings include parking sensors, an MP3-compatible audio system, Bluetooth connectivity and eMyWay satellite navigation system.
The updated Citroen C3 is slated for Australian release in Q4 this year (2013).
