GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Famous German luxury brand to relaunch
Borgward brand to be revived for the Geneva motor showGerman brand Borgward will return after a 54-year absence by launching a brand new car at the Geneva motor show next month.
Borgward first began making cars in 1919 before reaching its manufacturing peak during the 1950s. Car making only ceased in 1961 after Borgward went bankrupt.
Famed as the pioneer of the first affordable premium sedans, Borgward had a reputation of making small and medium-sized cars as well as light and heavy duty commercial vehicles.
Most popular, was the mid-fifties Isabella sedan that spun off a coupe and convertible model.
The revival has been driven by Christian Borgward, grandson of founder Carl, and his business partner Karlheinz Knoss. Both have been working on the relaunch of the car maker for over ten years.
“Relaunching Borgward is a childhood dream come true for me”, says Borgward.
