The worst-kept secret of this week’s Geneva motor show has been confirmed: Ferrari will stage the world premiere of a new range-topping hypercar to replace the benchmark-setting Enzo.
Confirmation of a Geneva debut for the all-new ‘Special Limited Series model’ came alongside yet another teaser image, with a fresh detail shot of the new supercar following dimly-lit front- and rear-end shots, plus badge and exhaust images.
“The Enzo is an unforgettable model,” said Ferrari’s Head of Design, Flavio Manzoni, who will unveil the Enzo successor in Geneva.
“Its heir will have even more personality, it will be a vision of the future.”
The official confirmation follows a similar ‘announcement’ made two weeks ago, when Ferrari appeared to confirm the car’s Geneva debut in a statement on photo-sharing website Instagram, which turned out to be fake. Codenamed F150, the newest Ferrari will debut at the same show as its most direct rival, McLaren’s new P1. The new Ferrari been developed for three years alongside the Enzo-based FXX research vehicle. It is expected to be powered by a development of the F12’s 6.3-litre V12 and could produce a combined 630kW in conjunction with an 80kW HY-KERS electric motor.
Housed in an all-carbon chassis that could weigh as little as 1100kg, the petrol-electric drivetrain is expected to make the F150 Ferrari’s fastest ever road car.
However, like the 2005 Enzo, it will remain a limited-edition model produced exclusively in left-hand drive guise, pricing for which is expected to top $1.5 million in Europe.
That hasn’t stopped around half a dozen well-heeled Australian Ferrari fans expressing interest, even if they won’t be able to drive it on public roads here.
