GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: GT 120 ups sporty Clio range

Renault offers a warmer performance model to sit beneath the Clio RS

Estate, hatchback, Renault Sport and now GT variants will broaden the appeal of Renault’s all-new Clio range.

Dubbed Clio GT 120 EDC, the sporty new variant of the Clio light car was unveiled at the Geneva motor show today. Available in five-door hatch and Estate (wagon) variants, the Clio GT 120 EDC will deliver buyers a mid-way option between the regular model line-up and hard-hitting RS variants.

The warmer Clio offers a 120hp (89.4kW) four-cylinder mated exclusively to a six-speed twin-clutch (EDC) transmission, revised grille and bumpers, 17-inch alloy wheels, offset LED daytime running lights, twin chrome-plated exhaust outlets and GT badging. The downsized and direct injected 1.2-litre turbocharged engine is claimed by Renault to be a feisty performer guaranteeing competitive fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of 5.2L/100km and 120g/km on the combined cycle.

Grey fabric trim is complemented by chrome and gloss black garnishes, a sports steering wheel with transmission shift paddles, sports seats, aluminium-capped pedals and sporty instrumentation. Leather upholstery is available optionally.

Gadgetry extends to Renault’s new R-Link infotainment system, which includes satellite navigation, Bluetooth connectivity and a reversing camera, automatic climate control, RS Monitor 2.0 on-board telemetry system, and RS Drive button which remaps the transmission’s shift patterns for a sportier feel.

Like the remainder of the range, Clio GT also achieves a maximum possible five-star EuroNCAP safety rating.

“The reveal of estate and hatchback versions of New Renault Clio GT 120 EDC is a double whammy for the New Clio range which these comfortable, dynamic cars join at very top,” said Renault Sport project and product programmer director, Christophe Besseau. “Their versatility, performance and fuel efficiency sees Renault Sport set new standards in the world of hot hatches.”

Renault is yet to confirm Australian delivery of the Clio GT 120 EDC. European sales will commence shortly.
