Infiniti has performed a nip and tuck on its Q50 mid-size luxury sedan, unveiling updates at the Geneva motor show overnight.
Due to reach Australian showrooms later this year, the 2018 Infiniti Q50 features new styling treatment inside and out, along with added safety equipment. Infiniti is also set to overhaul its model naming strategy, eschewing the current GT and Premium grades for new Pure, Luxe and Sport trims.
From the outside, the update concentrates on changes to the front grille and tail-lights. Top grade models also receive altered bumper designs with a more aggressive bent.
In the case of the flagship Red Sport 400 model, Infiniti has integrated black wing mirrors and prominent twin exhaust tips wrapped by diffuser-shaped styling.
Inside, faux leather coverings now surround the centre fascia, plus there’s a new steering wheel, gear shifter and chrome highlights.
The updated Q50 features steer-by-wire technology, active lane keeping assistance, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and automated emergency braking.
Infiniti defines the suite of safety equipment as its ProPilot package, however the Q50 isn’t as advanced as the ProPilot bundle available on the facelifted Qashqai, which can steer, accelerate and brake autonomously in certain conditions.
Under the bonnet, the Q50 is expected to carry over a familiar range of petrol, diesel and petrol-electric hybrid drivetrains. Sitting atop the performance hierarchy will be the Red Sport 400, fitted with a 3.0-litre V6 engine boasting up to 298kW and 475Nm, or 400hp in the old money.
The updated Q50 is due for release in Australia later this year.
