Infiniti has revealed further details of its F1-inspired Q60 Project Black S concept, the Japanese luxury firm’s rival to the BMW M4 and Mercedes-AMG C63.
Unveiled in full at the 2017 Geneva motor show, the concept car is the result of collaboration between Infiniti and the Renault Sport Formula One team.
It also builds on the work of the now-defunct Infiniti Q50 Eau Rogue sedan.
Engineers have deleted that prototype’s Nissan GT-R drivetrain, instead adopting a road-going application of the hybrid Energy Recovery System (ERS) familiar with Formula One that reportedly works in concert with an uprated 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 lifted from the current Q60 Red Sport.
It is understood the final power figure will produce in excess of 375kW, with the ERS capturing energy under braking to release explosive power on acceleration.
"Infiniti is the premium car manufacturer within the Renault-Nissan Alliance, and a technical partner to the Renault Sport Formula One team, so it is natural that we come together to explore the possibility of bringing innovative high-performance technology to our customers," said Infiniti President Roland Krueger.
"Infiniti has constantly led the way in making innovative new powertrain technology available, and we're extremely excited by the potential of Project Black S."
The underbody tech helps to punctuate a much sportier Q60 styling brief.
With cosmetic changes including new front and rear bumpers, wider front and rear tracks and an aggressive boot-mounted rear spoiler, the Project S takes a definitive step towards the best machines from BMW, Audi Sport and Mercedes-AMG.
