GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Italdesign Giugiaro GEA concept

An image and accompanying brief video tease Italian design and engineering company Italdesign Giugiaro's upcoming concept car, the GEA concept.

Set to debut at next week's Geneva motor show, the GEA concept is said to embrace 'the Future Luxury Mobility Vision', which we translate as the look into the future of the brand's luxury cars.

It's hoped the GEA will look a lot better than Italdesign Giugiaro's previous show car, the awkward, wing-doored Clipper which was based on Volkswagen's MQB platform. To date, however, little more than a stylised brand logo draped under a sheet has been shown of the new concept.

As well as a heavy focus on luxury we also know that GEA is also likely to include a range of electronic driver aids and may even preview autonomous driving technology to some degree. It's likely that much of that technology will again come from Italdesign Giugiaro's collaborative efforts with VAG, including the possibility of a fully electric drivetrain, familiar to the Clipper.

During its outing, the Clipper premiered an all-electric drivetrain comprising a pair of 110kW motors, one driving each axle. The car was said to have a 540km range, and fully independent all-wheel drive.
