GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Jaguar F-TYPE SVR official

Jaguar comes clean on its 200mph F-TYPE following last week's leak

Jaguar has confirmed its plan to release the F-TYPE SVR at the Geneva motor show in March, after the existence of the piping-hot new sports car was leaked by Dutch website Autoblog.nl last week.

Except for a top speed of 200mph (322km/h), no new information has been released about the lighter, quicker and faster new F-TYPE SVR, but these three fresh pics and the first official video confirm the authenticity of last week's leaked images and details.

Therefore we can assume correct the details we brought you last Saturday via the leaked German brochure, including engine outputs of 423kW/700Nm and a 0-100km/h acceleration time of just 3.7 seconds.

That means the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 in Jaguar's first SVR model will offer 18kW more power and 20Nm more torque than the rear-drive F-TYPE R Coupe, making it 0.4 seconds quicker to 100km/h and 22km/h faster.

Brought to you by Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations — which engineered the F-TYPE Project 7, all 250 examples of which have been sold — the F-TYPE SVR is fitted as standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, which is optional on the F-TYPE R.

As with the F-TYPE R, the two-seat aluminium-bodied F-TYPE SVR Coupe will also be available as a convertible.

“The new F-TYPE SVR is the first series production Jaguar to be developed by Special Vehicle Operations and benefits from everything we know about precision engineering, performance and design," said Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations managing director John Edwards.

"The result is a 200mph, all-weather supercar that you can drive every day – we even made a Convertible version so that enthusiasts can revel in the sound from the new titanium exhaust system.”

The latter will cut 21kg off the F-TYPE SVR's kerb weight – the same number as its large carbon ceramic discs – while another 10kg is saved with forged aluminium wheels.

As the images show, other extras include a larger rear diffuser, new front bumper and a larger rear wing that will reduce lift by as much as 80 per cent.

Stand by for more details and the full official reveal on February 17, before the F-TYPE SVR makes its public debut in Switzerland on March 1 and hits European showrooms as part of the 2017 F-TYPE model range mid-year.

When it hits Australia later this year, expect the F-TYPE SVR to be priced well above the existing F-TYPE R AWD coupe ($242,280) and convertible ($260,980).
