GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Magna Steyr MILA Plus

All-paw hybrid sports coupe concept hits 100km/h in 3.6 seconds, boasts 500km range

Magna Steyr has been well known for its contract engineering and OEM parts supply business – rather than building its own actual cars – for more than a century.

Now, just in time for its global debut at the 2015 Geneva motor show nest week, the Austrian firm has revealed its MILA Plus hybrid concept.

Magna Steyr says its two-seat hybrid sports car features an aluminium frame with integrated batteries, tipping the scales at 1520kg.

The coupe will draw motivation from a three-cylinder petrol engine and twin electric motors – one driving the front axle and one driving the rear.

Magna Steyr has yet to supply output figures for the MILA Plus hybrid, but says it will hit triple figures in 4.9 seconds in hybrid mode, dropping to just 3.6 seconds under all-electric power.

Driving range for the eye-catching two-door is quoted at "around 500km" with 75km available in EV mode. CO2 emissions are listed at 32g/km.

Magna Steyr also says that the MILA Plus hybrid's chassis components and the interior are fully recyclable, and that the model combines "intelligent lightweight construction [with] an alternative drive and emotional design".

The Magna Steyr MILA Plus hybrid is the latest is a series of concept vehicles to come from the European firm's MILA Innovation Family of showcars.

In 2012 the memorable "three-in-one" MILA Coupic concept was the sixth model to premiere at Geneva, the SUV-like three-door hatch capable of changing from a SUV to a ute to a convertible within minutes, via an electrically-operated top.

Unlike the MILA Coupic, which remained a concept, it's anticipated the MILA Plus hybrid will enter production within the next two to three years.
