GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: New Koenigsegg Jesko is world's first 300mph hypercar

Swedish car-maker says Agera-replacing 1177kW Koenigsegg Jesko will crack 482km/h

The Koenigsegg Jesko revealed at this week's Geneva motor show will be the world's first production car capable of cracking 300mph (482km/h), the Swedish hypercar-maker has announced.

Introduced to replace the outgoing, record-breaking Agera RS, the new Koenigsegg Jesko takes its name from Christian von Koenigsegg's 80-year old father.

Claimed to be based around a heavily revised version of the Agera RS' carbon-fibre monocoque, the latest Koenigsegg Jesko is powered by a updated 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that on E85 fuel the produces a monstrous 1177kW and 1500Nm.

On normal premium petrol that power figure drops to a still incredible 941kW.

Said to weigh just 189kg, the new V8 is claimed to be the world's lightest thanks to novel weight-saving like ceramic-coated pistons.

The engine combines with a new nine-speed dual-clutch transmission that, again, is claimed to be the lightest in world at just 90kg (including fluids).

To deal with the huge power and torque available, Koenigsegg says it had to develop an internal electronic differential to manage the forces.

Koenigsegg is yet to announce official performance figures, but with a slick launch control, a sub 2.5 second 0-100km/h is expected, despite the Jesko remaining rear-wheel drive.

To deal with the torque, the car-maker's team of engineers has created a new suspension system that features horizontal-mounted active dampers to maintain body control under hard acceleration; the car's, not the driver's, that is.

There's even a new rear-steer system to boost agility at low speeds and stability at extremely high speeds.

Key to reaching the astonishing 300mph goal is the Jesko's advanced active aerodynamics that produces 1000kg of downforce at around 275km/h and a maximum 1400kg at the Koenigsegg's 480km/h-plus top speed.

Inside, the Jesko gets a surprisingly cossetting cabin with lots of leather, alcantara, carbon-fibre and even a nine-inch infotainment system that works with Apple CarPlay.

Improving its role as an everyday hypercar, Koenigsegg says the updated carbon-fibre architecture allows more space for the driver and passenger to stretch out, while the hydraulic scissor doors offer easy access.

The Koenigsegg Jesko is priced in Europe from £2.3 million ($A4.3m) with production limited to just 125 cars.
