GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Next Kia Sorento teased

Tougher Kia Sorento confirmed for Swiss show; set to get full range of electrified powertrains

It's been confirmed that the fourth-generation Kia Sorento will be revealed at the Geneva motor show on March 3.

Releasing two new sketches to preview its mid-sized SUV's tougher exterior styling, Kia revealed that the Sorento would come with a hybrid option for the first time.

Only last week the Korean manufacturer was the victim of a security breach after images of the 2021 Sorento were leaked online.

Featuring a look that picks up where the butch American Telluride left off, the Sorento's rendering confirms the accuracy of the leaked images. The Sorento is adopting a more aggressive style centered around the largest ever iteration of the brand's trademark 'Tigershark' grille and chunkier looks.

At the rear, vertical LED light strips look like they've been pinched from the Telluride.

Inside, it looks like Sorento will continue the brand’s push upmarket, featuring a huge, widescreen infotainment system, plenty of brushed aluminium trim and attention to detail, plus fit and finish to challenge the Germans.

Other highlights of the Sorento’s cabin include a full digital instrument cluster and a new rotary gear selector that is supplemented by another rotary dial below it to manage driving modes and the all-wheel drive hardware.

Under the bonnet, most versions are expected to come with an electrified 2.2-litre turbo-diesel that's combined with an eight-speed auto - with or without all-wheel drive.

The new hybrid version, meanwhile, is set to combine a small turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol with a lithium-ion battery and a small electric motor on the rear axle.

This should provide punchy acceleration and a pure-electric range of around 60km.

Rumoured to be unveiled in Korea on February 17, the Euro-spec Sorento will make its debut at the Geneva motor show on March 3, and sales will commence late this year or early 2021.
