China’s fledgling carmaker Qoros recently issued the first images of its maiden production car – the GQ3 compact sedan – and now the company has followed up by announcing it will also use the Geneva motor show to unveil a pair of concepts. The Cross Hybrid Concept and Estate Concept allegedly preview future Qoros designs and are said to signal the brand’s commitment to creating a range of models aimed at Chinese and European motorists.
Both design studies share their platform with the GQ3, which is due to be launched in China in the second half of 2013, with the first cars arriving in Europe later in the year.
The company is planning an aggressive product rollout, with additional new models set to debut at intervals of just six months.
Styled under the stewardship of Qoros design boss Gert Volker Hildebrand – the man behind the modern-day Mini – the brand’s offerings are claimed to embody German-influenced design (even though there appears to be more than a hint of Kia Cerato in the GQ3).
The Cross Hybrid Concept and Estate Concept are said to be pointers to “possible future compact hatchback crossover and estate variants”, and this teaser image shows a pair of sporty five-doors with heavily tapered rooflines.
The Cross Hybrid Concept features an innovative hybrid drive system comprising a petrol engine that drives the front wheels, supplemented by electric motor rear-wheel drive.
Meanwhile, the Estate Concept is claimed to offer generous and versatile interior space thanks to a number of alternative seating and luggage storage options. There are also numerous storage compartments and accessories to boost the wagon’s flexibility as a long-distance vehicle.
Qoros Auto is headquartered in Changshu, a hub for China’s rapidly growing automobile industry, and it is currently building a production plant that will have an initial build capacity of 150,000 vehicles per year (which the company claims can be increased to 450,000 vehicles per year).
