Volvo has released yet another new teaser for its forthcoming XC60 that it plans to reveal on March 7 at the Geneva motor show.
The new darkened pic, released late last night, teases the new XC60’s rear tail-light and LED light signature.
Last week the car-maker teased the new XC60’s nose, revealing that the Swedish car-maker's new rival for the BMW X3 would come with its bigger XC90 sibling’s unmistakable ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED light signature.
As well as the new image, Volvo announced some of the new safety tech that will ensure the XC60 will be nothing less than the safest SUV in its class.
Like its rivals, the new XC60 will come with autonomous emergency braking that incorporates bothpedestrian and large animal detection.
Unlike cars like the Audi Q5, as well as being able to slow the car, Volvo says the XC60 will also have the capability to automatically steer away from a potential collision.
The steering support system engages when automatic braking isn't enough to avoid a collision and works at speeds of between 50 and 100km/h.
Over speeds of 60km/h and up to 140km/h the auto steering may also trigger if the system detects you wandering out of lane and into the path of oncoming traffic.
Volvo has even incorporated the steering to work with its blind spot information system.
If a vehicle is detected in the blind spot and you don't react to a warning, the XC60 can automatically steer itself back into its lane to prevent a collision.
In Sweden alone, Volvo says emergency auto braking has already reduced rear-end frontal crashes by 45 per cent, Volvo claims.
Other new tech set to be introduced to the second-gen XC60 is Volvo's latest semi-autonomous cruise control that can steer, accelerate and brake automatically at speeds of up to 130km/h.
Other things we know about Volvo’s latest SUV is it will come based on a shortened version of the SPA platform that also underpins both the S90 sedan and V90 wagon.
Under the bonnet, initially, there will be the choice of one 2.0-litre turbo-diesel with either 140kW or 173kW.
Later on, a flagship T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid will be offered, delivering around 300kW.
All models, it’s thought, will come with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Although it goes on sale later this year in Europe, it’s not known when we’ll get the new XC60 in Australia, but we’ll know more after its unveiling at the Swiss show.
The new XC60 won’t be the only car Volvo plans to launch in 2017. Also arriving in the car-maker’s global line up is an all-new mid-size S60 sedan and V60 wagon, and smaller S40 and XC40 SUV.
