Pagani has revealed the new Imola hypercar it plans to launch at the 2020 Geneva motor show on March 3.
Based on the already rapid Pagani Huayra BC coupe, the new Imola is named after the classic F1 circuit that cost Ayrton Senna his life.
That explains why the hard-core Pagani Imola has more than a little track bias to both its design and engineering.
In fact, the Italian hypercar-maker claims the Imola has spent more than 16,000km hot-lapping the famous Italian race track as its engineers honed both its handling and advanced aero.
Combined with a seven-speed Xtrac sequential transmission that offers even quicker shift times, all the Imola's might is channelled to the rear wheels.
No performance figures have been offered, but the new track-focused Imola is already being touted as the fastest car Pagani has ever made – both in a straight line and where it counts – around a race circuit like the one that lends its name.
Fresh new technology for the Imola includes new active dampers that are interconnected and managed, along with the active aero spoilers, by a new central electronic control unit that's also in charge of the engine and transmission.
Pagani says this allows quicker, more precise reponses, boosting overall performance and reducing lap times.
Cutting weight has also been a chief priority, with the Imola sporting what Pagani claims is a total of 770 new weight-saving parts constructed from either aluminium or titanium to shave the kilos without jeopardising strength.
Even the way the Imola is painted is said to reduce the mass, saving 5kg compared to a Huarya. The end result is the wild Pagani weighs just 1246kg (dry).
Pagani says it will limit production to just five cars and each Imola will costs $5.4 million plus taxes ($A8m).
