Famed Italian design house Pininfarina has unveiled its latest creation at the Geneva motor show overnight – the stunning Pininfarina Enigma GT concept.
Tipping the scales at 1690kg, the wild 2+2 coupe features huge vertically hinged doors and is powered by an internal combustion engine that burns hydrogen, not petrol or diesel, which drastically reduces tailpipe emissions.
The powertrain in question is a 325kW 2.5-litre turbocharged V6 that drives the rear wheels. It is supplemented by a 200kW electric motor on the front axle, enabling all-wheel drive, while the combination of a 9kg hydrogen tank and 10kWh battery provides a theoretical range of more than 700km.

“The Enigma GT is a beginning of sorts, something still a little mysterious, a first step in solving a tricky problem,” said Pininfarina’s chief creative officer, Felix Kilbertus.
“We set out to offer a fresh perspective on what everyday driving pleasure might mean for a new generation.”
Design-wise, the vehicle has been aerodynamically optimised around the front to improve its ability to slice through the air and reduce fuel consumption, while active aero elements are designed to minimise drag when cruising and increase downforce when more grip is required, such as on the racetrack.

“It is an open invitation to re-invent the future together,” said Kilbertus.
“We decided to start by exploring one of the best automotive canvasses around: a contemporary GT, a 2+2 with desirable, exotic looks, done the Italian way – the Pininfarina way – exuding purity of design, elegance, and Italian flair.”
It’s not clear if the Enigma GT concept will evolve into a production vehicle but Kilbertus calls the vehicle “an ongoing study, an optimistic work in progress that speaks of our confidence in the future and the charm of the automobile”.
