Germans create steroidal Camaro GT3 racer
American coupe set to see competitive action in Germany's ADAC GT Masters championshipChevrolet's Camaro already sees competitive action in various US-based race series, but German tweaker Hans Reiter has conjured up this brutal looking GT3-compliant version to wage battle in the ADAC GT Masters championship.
Reiter Engineering is best known for creating title-winning Lamborghini Gallardos, but the silver Camaro pictured alongside has been rolled out under the banner of a newly formed subsidiary dubbed Sareni United.
Full technical details haven't been released, but what we do know is that the Camaro's propulsion comes from a 7.9-litre V8 that kicks out 485kW and 850Nm, enabling it to allegedly cut similar lap times to Reiter Engineering's Gallardo GT3 racer.
However, there is reportedly still much finessing and calibration to do before a pair of race-ready Camaros is rolled out for Germany's ADAC Masters series.
Pricing has been set at €195,000 + VAT ($245,000), which means it's substantially cheaper than the likes of the Porsche 911 GT3 R. The company has reportedly also received enquiries about GT4 and touring car variants.
The race-prepped Camaro weighs 1290kg, compared with 1750kg for the showroom version, and the aero upgrades are plain to see from the accompanying pics.
The most eye-catching features are undoubtedly the huge rear wing and diffuser, louvred bonnet and side pipes exiting just aft of the front wheel. Fat slicks wrapped around black rims and a dumped ride height round off a menacing looking package.
High-quality presentation also extends to the revamped cabin, which gains a flat-topped/bottom steering wheel, a digital instrument panel, bespoke centre console, drilled alloy pedals and an integrated rollcage.
According the company, the aim wasn't just to build a race-ready Camaro, but to make it affordable enough to attract first-time racers. Consequently, the engine and gearbox only need to be overhauled every 5000km, while other parts can be left untouched for 10,000km.
