Over the 50 years of its existence, British marque Ginetta has carved itself a tidy niche alongside the likes of Morgan and TVR with fast, exclusive machinery -- in Ginetta's case, much admired in tracksport circles.
Now the company has surprised industry watchers with an all-electric version of G50 road/track model, the petrol version of which was launched just last year.
Of course with track versions of the car coming in at a miniscule 800kg, the G50 was an ideal candidate for conversion. Ginetta has opted for a super-compact brushless DC motor technology designed and manufactured by partner company Zytek, powered by a three-cell battery pack.
The drivetrain design integrates the electric motor, power and control electronics into a single compact unit with just three connections to the outside world: high voltage (300V input; for charging), low voltage (12V output, for powering peripheral devices) and water, used for cooling.
The sleek RWD two-seater can reach 100km/h in around 4sec on the way to a 200km/h top speed. Ginetta claims a range of 400km on a full charge.
Not a whole lot more has been confirmed about it yet. Price? A fair bit more than the £35,000 they ask for a track-ready, Ford V6-powered petrol version.
