Giulietta local pricing announced

Alfa Romeo sets the ticket for its 'evocative' new Giulietta hatch

One of the most evocative names in automotive history has been reborn with Alfa Romeo announcing the arrival of its Giulietta model in Australia this week.

Combining the latest in technology, performance and style, Giulietta rides on an all-new platform that combines the chassis, floorpan and basic structure into a single piece. Alfa says the new compact platform results in a safer and more comfortable vehicle that loses none of the sought after dynamic qualities for which the brand is renowned.

To enhance that drive even further, Giulietta's electronic handling systems see an adaptive 'DNA' dampening system, an electronic 'Q2' differential and stability control fitted as standard across the range.

"There is no doubt that the new Alfa Romeo Giulietta has very large shoes to fill," says Andrei Zaitzev, General Manager of Alfa Romeo in Australia. "It carries one of the all-time great car names which graced some of the best cars of the last century and it must pick up the reins ... in one of the most challenging sectors of the market, the prestige small car sector."

Giulietta is powered by a choice of two petrol engines, depending on variant: a 125kW MultiAir 1.4-litre for the entry-level hatch and 173kW 1750 TBi mill for the sporty Giulietta QV.

Performance figures see the Giulietta conquer the 0-100km/h sprint in 7.8 seconds (or 6.8 seconds on Giulietta QV) while achieving a combined cycle fuel consumption figure of just 5.8L/100km. CO2 emissions are 134g/km.

"Alfa Romeo Giulietta is fully equipped to succeed," explains Zaitzev. "With a comprehensive standard equipment list and a benchmark price it's clear that the 21st Century Alfa Romeo Giulietta is ready to open a fresh chapter in the catalogue of classic Alfa Romeo sports cars."

That long list of standard equipment sees Giulietta include electric windows and mirrors, dual-zone climate control, fog lamps, daytime running lamps, alloy wheels, auto headlamps and wipers, Blue&Me telephony, rear parking sensors and a leather-bound steering wheel incorporating remote audio and cruise control functionality.

Giulietta QV adds sport suspension (lowered by 10mm), sports seats, Bose audio, tinted windows and 18-inch alloy wheels over red-painted brake calipers.

Six airbags and a broad range of passive and active safety systems see both models score a highest-possible five-star EuroNCAP safety rating.
