Less than 10 months after taking over Fritz Henderson (pictured) has quit as CEO of General Motors. The news filtered through this morning with company chairman Ed Whitacre Jnr being named interim CEO.
Henderson's decision to call it quits is another blow for the company in the wake of its failed attempt to sell Saab and decision to back out of plans to sell Opel and Vauxhall. He had only been in the job since March when his predecessor, Rick Wagoner, was forced to step aside at the request of President Barack Obama's auto task force.
Whitacre released the following statement confirming the decision on the GM media website.
No timeframe for a permanent replacement has been revealed.
