And here's more on Flickerfest...

15 years, 15 centres - Flickerfest 2006, driven by MINI: Outstanding short films from more than 20 countries - among them Iceland, Singapore, Ireland, and Mexico - have made the cut for the 15th annual Flickerfest International Short Film Festival, Australia's premier international short film event.

Sixty films have been selected from more than 900 entries that poured into Flickerfest's offices from around the globe. After kicking off at Bondi in January, they’re now currently on a national tour of 15 centres.

Selected films include the award-winning The Big Empty, which stars Selma Blair, had George Clooney as executive producer and won the USA Film Festival Grand Prize 2005, and We Have Decided Not to Die, the Australian film that took out the prestigious Jameson Award at Flickerfest 2005.

Festival director Bronwyn Kidd: "Flickerfest, with its sensational selection of shorts, has become part of summer. People love that they can kick back for a great night of films.

"We've always been determined to offer the best short film program in the country, and 2006 is just that."

Highlights at Flickerfest 2006 will include four special programs:

  • The Phil Mulloy Program - Multi-award-winning UK animator Phil Mulloy's work comments on human nature and challenges contemporary values, standing as a model of satiric grotesque unparalleled in British animation.
  • Jameson Short Film Award Winners - In 2006, Flickerfest will present the prestigious Jameson Award for the second time in Australia. The award carries major significance at European film festivals and is recognised as the one of the world's most important short film awards.
  • African Showcase - In 2006, Flickerfest will shine its cultural spotlight on one of the most colourful regions of the world in screening an award winning array of shorts from Africa.
  • Love bites! - Life, love and the idiosyncrasies of all relationships get examined through a sexy and humorous program of internationally acclaimed shorts that point the global spotlight on love.
